Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes/No
No, as this is an issue with the git extension

  • VS Code Version: github.dev
  • OS Version: chrome

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Create a repo
  2. add .gitignore with some random filename
  3. open in github.dev
  4. create the random file.
  5. go to the git tab
  6. vscode wants to commit the file in .gitignore

This bug is quite annoying for students who use MakeCode extension. It will show bunch of unnecessary files from MakeCode project to be committed to their github repo. See microsoft/vscode-makecode#23 for details. Greatly appreciate your help.
