[BUG]: fix flaky JS test

Description of changes

Asynchronous expects() were not properly awaited, leading to cross-test pollution.

Test plan

How are these changes tested?

• Tests pass locally with pytest for python, yarn test for js, cargo test for rust

Ran JS tests 10x in CI. No flake.
